I just watched "the minister of sewers", (a psychic t.v. production featuring bill burroughs, with footage of gysin in action) among the shots were numerous scenes of dream machines along with overlapped images of apartments & gysin paintings. I also came across a book entitled "flickers" which is (presumably) about the dream machine. what I'm wondering is, how many of you know of thesde things & how many types of dream maching patterns are doccumented.

here is the classic, I've also seen square & diamond patterns. the first one I saw had a tiki mask type pattern. it also occurs to me the zoetrope quality of the device. -

This one is easy to make with 4-ply posterboard and an exacto knife. I had one for a while. - though really, as long as the light emerges at the same rate of flickering, there should be infinate ways to design one. for instance, you could space the holes differently and then set the record player to different speeds (within some reason of course). -

Sun, August 26, 2007 - 11:30 PMIf memory serves, there is a template in the book "Flickers.." that you mention to build a dreamachine cylinder.
It is made to fit a 33rpm record player and is thus a bit small but still effective.
